Many industries are suffering financially at the moment due to the recession; however, there has been a ray of hope that has come from the broadband industry.
A statement made by Ofcom has said that although the speeds of broadband in the UK are very slow compared to other countries, there has been very little complaining coming from the vast majority of customers. This information has come thanks to a report released by Analysys Mason.
There has been a recent development that has explained that the correct way of measuring broadband speeds in extremely close to the complexity of rocket science for many countries. This report was called “Consumer Experience of Broadband Performance.” In the current issue of this report we can hear from companies who are advising their customers that they may find that they are not getting the broadband speeds that have been advertised as these speeds are only available in almost impossible to find ‘ideal conditions.’
Based on findings from Analysys Mason these broadband speed issues are the same in the UK, in fact, the average broadband speed in the UK is below the maximum average speed. Although the average UK speed is far below the average in other countries, there have only been 9 per cent of customers who have been unhappy with their service and the speed of their connection.
A principal at Analysys Mason, Rupert Wood said “First, Ofcom indicates that the average broadband speed is below the average maximum available across the UK, and significantly below advertised headline speeds. Secondly, it highlights the low average broadband speed available in the UK compared with other developed economies, which for some is a source of national shame.”
It would seem that the majority of customers in the UK are happy to accept that there will be limitations on the speed of their broadband that they receive. More and more people are beginning to understand that the numbers of users that are online in a particular area at a certain time or the proximity to an exchange are all factors that can affect the speed of the internet that you receive in the UK.
If you are concerned about the speed of broadband that you are receiving, it may be worth doing a broadband speed test on the internet, there are many sites that can tell you what speed you have. If you find that you are unhappy with your internet it may be worth getting on the internet to compare broadband speeds on offer at the moment.
