Management courses and MBA are the buzz words these days, especially with the CAT results just out. There are many who got through, and are preparing for the next stages of the admission process. However, there are many more who couldn’t bell the
CAT . So, what next for them? Some choose to wait till the next year while others prepare for other entrance exams. But there are a few who sometimes lose focus and feel depressed for having not cracked the CAT. It is important for them to understand that MBA and IIMs are not the end of the road.
An MBA degree is a mean to an end but it is not the only mean. Also, while CAT is one of the routes to an MBA, it is not the only one. Firstly, there are so many other prestigious B-schools and entrance exams that one could focus on instead of feeling down in the dumps for having not cracked the CAT. For instance, XLRI, ISB, FMS, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies Mumbai, S.P Jain Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai), MDI, NMIMS, and many more, just to name a few.
All these B-schools offer competitive and robust
management courses. .
Secondly, if your focus and expectations from your career and life are set, there is nothing that can stop you from achieving that. There are many upcoming courses and fields that you could look at. Specialized courses such as those in retail management, hospital management, e-commerce are picking up fast. The demand for candidates from these fields is only going to go up in the coming years so you could be one of the early movers and leverage this fact in your career later on. There are big firms that are stepping in these fields and they would need qualified and skilled professionals to work
Always remember that an MBA is no guarantee to success. It certainly does help in getting the initial leverage but is you have the strong determination to achieve what you want in life, nothing can stop you. There are various success stories that tell us that non-MBAs have gone on in life to become super-successes. They were not armed withteh degree but with the will to succeed.
Steve Jobs of Apple Inc, Bill Gates of Microsoft, Larry Page of Google and many more like them are non-MBAs. They went to become super successful entrepreneurs without an MBA under their belt. So, remember the connection between an MBA and success is not more than a fallacy. A successful person would personify a lot more than just a degree under his belt. If you have the determination to do well, are ready to shed sweat and blood, do your homework well and most importantly, keep faith in yourself, you have your success written on the wall.
Just gather your guns together and ask yourself, what is it that you want to derive from any course that you pursue? Is it just for the degree tag or are you looking at being trained in the nuances of management by the best brains in the world? Or, the focus is just getting a lucrative job? None of these expectations is right or wrong as it is relative to each individual but an evaluation will definitely help you choose the best.
So, remember that an MBA degree is not the only thing. There are a lot more avenues that you can look at. Once you have identified what is it that excites you and can keep your interest alive, you can look at the
educational courses in that field. Take advice from professional experts in this field who can guide you on this delicate time of your life. One wrong step now can harm your chances badly. Also, always remember that giving up is an absolute sure-shot mantra to failure. Those who give up cannot ever blame anyone else. Success doesn’t come easy. It has to be worked at meticulously. You have to work in the right direction with the right people to finally achieve what you want to in life. There would definitely be hurdles and setbacks but that should not deter you from your focus. Success is only proportional to your strong will and hard work.
