Laboratory assistant jobs are available to all races, just like any other job in the US. They have certain requirements for you to meet, and if you meet them you qualify for the job. In this case, it all depends on the type of laboratory. Each laboratory researches and studies something different and will require you to know all about the subject they are researching. If they’re trying to cure cancer, then they’ll look for assistants who know a lot about the disease and have are adept in the sciences that would come into play to bring about a cure. They’d most likely look for students or recent graduates who studied one of the life science majors. However, none of this has to do with what race that applicant belongs to.

There is diversity in the workplace and it’s increasing daily. With all the new movements for equality among races, we’re finding more diversity everywhere. You’ll find lab assistants from all kinds of backgrounds. Many of them might not have been born in the US, but are now US citizens, eager to learn about life sciences. Workplace diversity has created a new outlook in different occupations. We are open to accepting people from all races and religions. We are embracing cultural diversity and diversity training.

This is great news for all the new immigrants flocking to America. They now have all kinds of possibilities and can let their imaginations soar when thinking of all these possibilities that will be granted once they move to the US.

I’ve been to many laboratories and research labs. I’ve seen all kinds of races there, but I’d have to say the majority of them are still Caucasian or Asian. You don’t see very many Hispanics or Blacks in research labs, yet. You see people from the Middle East, people from Japan or Southeast Asia as well as people from all over Europe or of European decent. So why is there a shortage of black and Hispanic people in US laboratories? With all the diversity and equality that has spread, why do they not find this field of study interesting to them?

Many people could guess as to why. People generally choose fields that not only interest them; they choose fields of study they are naturally good at. If they have an affinity for something, they’re more likely to pursue it. Everyone wants to find their place in the world and carve their own niche. They want to contribute something and in such a competitive world, we’re often immediately limited to the talents we’re born with. We realize at a young age what talents those are and then we begin to create our own dreams based around those innate abilities. So according to this theory, Hispanic and Black people aren’t born with talents and abilities in the fields of science. This is a stereotypical conclusion, but it’s based on statistics that are quite obvious. Black and Hispanic people generally pursue careers such as manual labor and athletics.

When schools come across a Hispanic or Black person interested in science, they often get major boosts throughout their schooling because of it. People want diversity in all departments and occupational fields, so even if there are dozens of Caucasians or Asians who are way better qualified; the Hispanic or Black person who shows the slightest interest in the field will get accepted and will get the scholarships to help them along the way. Many people have seen this as unfair, but in the end, as long as these minority students perform just as well as their colleagues in the real world, it all evens out. They’re simply trying to even the playing field for people with all different backgrounds and upbringings.

Statistics show that those minorities who get a boost throughout their schooling due to the fact that they’re a minority, perform just as well as those in the racial majority once they’re finished with school and in the real world of industry and commerce. Statistics show that they climb the corporate ladders just as fast and contribute in their fields just as well as those in the majority. So despite all the bickering over advantages and disadvantages, the playing field gets evened out once you enter the real world.

So diversity has proven to be a good thing. It has proven to be beneficial to all races, including those in the majority. Eventually, we hope to see everyone come from an equally strong background and upbringing, but that has to begin with the parents. It falls on the parents shoulders in the end, and if they don’t do their part, then their children will have disadvantages throughout their lives.

Negligent parents have been the true culprits since the beginning of time. People blame companies and educational systems for their children’s failures. They’ll blame everybody else before they look in the mirror and realize that it was their fault. Many people live in denial their entire lives, never taking the blame for their own negligence. It’s a sad story, and it’s hard to know what to truly do about it. Parents need to step up and take the initiative. They need to take responsibility and raise their children to enter the world with confidence and opportunity. They can’t just expect their kids to raise themselves and let the educational system provide them with their only form of education. If that’s what parents do, then they doom their children to a less than average life with less than average opportunities and less than average results.
