You have chosen to have a wedding in Las Vegas and you have planned everything except the music. In one sense, this can be the most important part of your planning because this can determine whether your guests stay at the reception or leave.

You have a variety of options with music and with how it is played, so there are many things to take into consideration. As an example, you will need to decide whether you want live music or a disc jockey and each choice will mean a different way for guests to work with the music.

You may decide that you want a little theme music playing in the background while guests are milling around and talking and different music when it is time to dance. Whatever you decide, here are some tips to choosing just the right music:


The theme of your wedding will decide the music – Having a wedding in Las Vegas is easy. There are plenty of places that already have everything ready for you. For example if you decide to have a western theme for your Las Vegas wedding, you will want to know whether you are doing just a little bit country or having a hoe down. This is important because you want the music to set the mood. But whatever theme you choose, you can be sure that in Las Vegas, you will find it all, that’s because of the countless weddings that they have there each year, wedding season or not.

Decide the type of dancing – The type of music will decide the type of dancing. So plan well, and know that type of dancing you want to have. Do you want to have something soft and dreamy or lively and fun? The latter can be a great way for everyone to have fun and to get some exercise after a great meal.


DJ versus live music - this is just a matter of preference. Live music will usually cost a little more and if it is square dancing you will probably pay for music and a fee for the caller. If you hire a DJ they will come with their own records so you will want to make sure they have a variety of music. Also, with a DJ make sure they have experience at the theme that your having at your Las Vegas wedding.

A good idea on the music is to ask to see their playlist. This will let you know whether they have the tunes you want and whether they have experience.

Another type of DJ music is a combination between DJ and live music. The difference is that instead of records, the individual brings a karaoke machine for the background music, then sings and performs for your guests. This can be a very unique experience of the individual is especially talented.
