Do you find your employees to have suffered from the following unfit conditions in the office?

(a) drowsiness; (b) sleepiness; (c) slurred and/or incoherent speech; (d) unusually aggressive behavior; (e) unusually depressive behavior, (f) unusual and rapid changes in mood; (g) disorientation or inability to concentrate; (h) lack of coordination in walking or performing other tasks.

If yes, then it is advisable to conduct a drug and alcohol screening test for your employees.

Any evaluation used to detect the presence of illegal drugs and/or alcohol in an individual's system is somewhat known as Drug and alcohol testing policy.

Illegal drug use cuts across social, economic and racial lines. It is very much important to understand the implication of the illegal drugs.

Any (a) illegal substance, including but not limited to, narcotics, hallucinogens, cocaine, marijuana, and designer drugs; and (b) controlled substance, including but not limited to amphetamines and barbiturates, that are used either without being prescribed by a licensed physician or in excess of the amount prescribed by a licensed physician.

So, alcohol and normal drugs can easily come to this lawful periphery if it is responsible for harming the working milieu.

Alcohol and drugs are primarily used for enjoyment and relaxation, but can bring problems if they are taken excessively. They can affect the health of individual users, and the safety and security of colleagues, the organization, and the public.

When this happens, the roles of the employers become crucial in eradicating the problems as soon as possible.

The use of drug and alcohol tests as a disciplinary tool is becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide and talking about the UK, a number of recent studies have suggested UK companies have a growing appetite for drug screening tests.

An October 2003 online survey by business information company Croner suggested 1 in 8 UK companies are now using drug tests "to monitor any potential substance abuse problems amongst their workforce."

If this figure is correct - and one UK drug tester has said they are "about right" - it would suggest the number of firms using drugs tests in the UK has more than doubled in a decade.

If we can stop this problem with good solutions, we can easily make our work space workable from all respects, since a drug-free workplace is a workplace free of the health, safety and productivity hazards caused by employees' abuse of alcohol or drugs.

This is the high time that we should start a comprehensive drug and alcohol testing policy which generally includes five components—a drug-free workplace policy, supervisor training, employee education, employee assistance and drug testing.

Saliva test, breath testing, hair testing, substance abuse testing, alcohol screening test, etc. come under this drug testing in the workplace. There are also so many drug test kits available in the market.

Just have this random drug testing done in your office and make it free from all the dangers.

Sooner we would do this drug screening test, better it would be for our work and productivity.
