The economy has been tough in my
freelance writing life. Before the end of 2008 everything was running fast and I could see my objectives and intentions just in reach.
2009 tainted all of that. The work did become higher pay, but it also seems that the gigs are fewer than before (and not just because of the rise in compensation). I have heard that the freelance market – particularly the ghost writing and content writing for the internet – tends to slack off at the first of the year. It would have been nice to know that in the previous months so that I could prepare for it this year, but hindsight is 20/20.
Yesterday does not matter all that much because there is nothing I can do to fix it. Today I have to keep pushing my freelance writing in order to get to where I want to be.
Escalating Freelance Writing Opportunities
1. Consider Advertising – there are so many companies that are beginning to advertise on the internet in different forms (from blogs to affiliate marketing) and many of them do not have employees for the content for the new avenues. Putting together a query letter and resume could open up some money making opportunities to help get me through these tough months.
2. Consider Middlemen – I’m already working for online companies that sell my writing to others. There is no reason I shouldn’t contact traditional companies in my area that also sell to other companies and let them know my services are available.
3. Consider multi-markets – I was listening to a tele-conference yesterday about eBooks and it was pointed out that it is a good idea to create material that can be released through different markets – but only uses one product or idea (including free reports to increase traffic, eBooks for sale and even classes over the internet or in live situations).
Freelance writing online is so much more than creating short material for blogs or ezines. It is a life style that opens opportunities to share know-how and skills through different media outlets. The best way get a rise in the freelance income and expand the freelance writing success is to push the limits of the opportunities so that you can tap into the commercial fronts in all directions.
