No parent would want any harm to come to their family, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe from harm. However, crime is something that’s inevitable in our modern society, and we all have to learn to deal with it one way or another. Thus, you need to learn how to protect your home and family the smart way.

When it comes to safety, you’d need some way to defend yourself and your family without having to resort to lethal methods to do that. From mace to TASER Products, non-lethal weapons are something that you may want to seriously consider to keep you and your family safe without having to kill somebody to do it.

Pepper sprays are particularly effective in handling nasty situations while keeping both damage and costs to a minimum. Easy to both store and use while being relatively affordable, these pepper sprays work by inflaming the area around the eyes, nose and throat of an assailant. The ensuing irritation to the aforementioned parts would be enough to incapacitate even the largest and beefiest goon out there. A man with a knife can’t do anything if his eyes are watered shut and coughing like mad to get the burn out of his throat.

From simple dead-bolts and padlocks to motion-sensors and security cameras, home security is also an essential deterrent to individuals with criminal intent for your family or your home. A home that’s difficult to break into is a fine deterrent for would-be burglars. Light, sound and hard locks make it harder for them to do their job, and this puts them off from risking it all by targeting your home. So you may seriously want to consider in investing a little time and money to make the home you live in safer and more secure.

As much as we pride ourselves in our fashion sense and valuable belongings, the time and place for such things must be taken into consideration. Owning a few Ferraris and proudly displaying Gucci or Prada may score points in wowing guests and making a splash in social events, but may cost you even more when you carelessly flaunt it about. The less attractive a target is, the less likely it will be ‘marked’ by a mugger or burglar. Keep the bauble and trinkets to a minimum as much as possible to make you a less appealing target.

No self defense products, home security systems or humble attire will protect you when you leave the door wide open for people to let themselves in your home.

As simple as it sounds, many people forget to check a lot of their security systems when they need it the most. An unlocked door, an open window, an unplugged alarm could spell disaster at the perfect time. Not only do they provide opportunity for burglars to enter your home, they actually invite them in. Burglars who know what they’re doing are quick to spot irregularities, and an open door or window is like a flashing neon sign that says “rob me.” Make sure to double-check everything before you sleep or leave the house, otherwise you may find yourself in deep trouble when you least expect it.
