Pool blankets and Solar heating units on the roof have both substantially increased in popularity in homes allowing the use of the sun to enjoy warmer water in pools. Your pool can be enjoyed in the quiet of an evening if the pool is heated using the sun which is the cheapest and easiest method.

The main methods of heating a pool by the sun are:
• A solar blanket
• The solar collector on the roof.
• Gas or Electric water heaters.

Also needed to heat up your pool is:
• A pump to circulate the water from the pool to the roof and back.
• A computer controller for day/night changes.

Solar roof heaters and solar pool blankets are an excellent combination to provide free heat from the sun in an environmentally friendly way.

A solar roof mounted heater works by pool water being pumped through a network of plastic (usually black) pipes. The sun heats up the black pipes which in turn heat up the pool water being pumped through these pipes. The heated water returns back into the pool – hence increasing the temperature of the pool water.

A solar pool blanket is placed on top of the pool water surface and prevents heat loss of the water caused by wind passing over the pool surface. The sun also warms up the pool blanket which in turn warms up the water.

A properly solar system fitted can double the swimming pool time in a pool and is low-maintenance and a long lasting heating system.

Most solar systems can be installed in a day and are fitted after the swimming pool has been installed. The cost of installing a solar pool system in an average swimming pool costs about $3000 for a low-maintenance water heater that can last up to 20 years.

Gas or Electric heaters work as any usual hot water system – they heat up cold water which is them pumped into the swimming pool – hence heating up the pool water.
