Matthew 6:26,33
Where Have You Put Confidence?
Do not be anxiously concerned (Webster defines this as being in "painful suspense") but expect all blessings, the supply of all your wants to come from Him. If our great Creator through Christ Jesus has made us capable of know, loving and enjoying Himself eternally, what may we not expect from Him, after so great a gift? (Romans 8:32)
Jeremiah gives us the picture of the heart rejoicing in the knowledge of God (not just a head-knowledge but the experiential knowledge of God) which by His Word He shapes and fills the heart and mind and imagination and will with - that righteousness supplied by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:17).
"[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is."
"For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads
out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when the heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit."
-Jeremiah 17:7-8
Do not put more confidence in your business acumen, your college degree, or your job all of which can fail but learn to put confidence in the unfailing love God cherishes for you. If God feeds and provides for the sparrows, how much more will He provide for you? This is not to say that we need not work, but work at what God has created us to do and place your confidence in Him. This is to be supplied abundantly without the gnawing fear of the troubles of this world!
In Psalm 138:8, God promises to fulfill everything that concerns you, and whatever He promises He will fulfill - let Him take thought for you but simply rest in His promises and He will bring them all to pass.
Ask Him for His Plans First
He promises in rest - calmly reposing on Him for assistance - quietness - in quieting our minds - and in confidence placed in Him and His promises. In a quiet submission to the will of God, and in quietly waiting upon Him for the issue and event of things, abiding in our own houses, and not in a hurrying tumultuous manner, running here and there for help; and in a holy and humble confidence in the Lord, and in the power of His might, where they should find such strength and security, as the world could not give them (Isaiah 30:15)
Seek the Kingdom of God first - The promise is make that if we seek it first, and its righteousness, all earthly wants will be supplied.
Saturate your mind and heart with His promises and all that He is, for He is your all in all -
1. Seek the kingdom first in point of time (do not seek competence first)
2. We must make it first in importance before temporal blessings.
3. It must be first in our affections, have our whole hearts. We must love the Lord our God with our whole heart (Matthew 22:37).
Seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (His way of being and doing right). Wait upon Him (expecting, looking, and longing) for His victory and favor, His love and peace and joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship!
Enjoy the Free Gift of Righteousness
Seek Him in His Word, search out His promises, and whatever He says you can be and do and have rest in those promises waiting on His thoughts and plans for you to unfold, to take shape in your heart and mind, your imagination and will.
Let Thy Spirit convince of us of sin in the want of this disposition, and take away the worldliness of our hearts. Singly aim at this, that God reigning in your heart, may fill it with the righteousness above described.
And as your heart holds faithfully to His Word and His Promises, He will be able to do far above anything you can imagine -
"[That you may really come] to know [practically through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!"
"Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]-"
"To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it)."
