Recently, I was in Hawaii for a holiday and I have to say that it's one of the best places I've visited, period. People there are warm, lots of fun things to do, good food, uninterrupted places for relaxing and a bunch more.
We even visited the shooting locations for the famous TV series, "Lost" and the movie, Jurassic Park.
When I went home, I learned a very valuable lesson in life -- how to overcome problems.
You see, it's kind of common to see people taking drugs, drink alcohol or smoke a lot when they're stressed, when they have problems. Some will go see a shrink (psychiatrist).
Interestingly, the local people in Hawaii handle problems differently. (Of course, not all of them but most of the dudes I've met there.)
When they have problems, they just take out their surf boards and ride on the waves. Or go out fishing for some peace and quiet time. Some just go for a nice swim in the sea and enjoy what Mother Nature has given.
The way I see it, they don't have 'problems'. They don't make a big fuss out of them but appreciate what life has to offer. As a matter of fact, if you were to go into a rural area in one of the islands, material riches are not their main priority in life -- it's about being happy and living a fulfilling life.
I'm not suggesting that we can avoid reality by being a surfer dude or something. Or don't care about money. Not at all, far from that. And I'm obviously not discouraging you to think big.
What I'm saying is, do you think your problem is really that big a deal? You might think that I am belittling your problem. Well, that's just unfortunate.
How big your problem is HOW YOU DEFINE IT.
Think of it this way... if you have $1,000,000 sitting in your bank account, then $100 is nothing, right?
But if your entire fortune consists of that $100 then $100 is EVERYTHING to you. The interesting part is, in reality, the $100 bill's value hasn't change a single bit-- it's your mind's perception on it that changes.
Just like how your brain wants to interprets the 'value' of your problem.
One thing's for sure is I don't have a solution for your problems and this article might not help a single bit to solve your problems. But you can decide for yourself whether you want to focus on it and make it bigger than life and let it suck your energy. Or -- go to the beach and enjoy the sunset.
Then think how you can handle your 'small' problem.
