After approved by the International Centre of Automotive Technology (ICAT) Maruti Suzuki’s sixth global car Maruti Ritz will be launched in June. Maruti Ritz will be built on Suzuki’s successful Splash platform and will be priced between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, which is just below the Swift’s price tag. Ritz will be powered by a KB series engine and will be positioned between A-star and Swift. Maruti may also launch a new utility vehicle and a new version of Alto. June will see a number of cars from the Fiat that is, the Grande Punto hatchback and the Fiat Bravo premium hatchback. The most awaited car of the year is, no doubt, Tata's Nano. The booking is completed on April 25, 2009. It is expected to reach close to 10 lakh. However, only 50,000 lucky person will own Nano. Tata Motors will also launch its crossover Indicruz the new Indigo range, based on the Indica Vista platform, in the next few months.
Honda Siel Cars (HSIC) is to launch its small car Honda Jazz, with 70 localisation, after two months in the current year. This would be the only small car in Honda's global portfolio. The price tag will be Rs 5.5 lakh. The car is based on Honda City platform and is likely to endorse Honda pioneered V-Tec technology for high fuel efficiency, which is already used in the Honda City engine. The car would be pitted against Skoda Fabia, Ford Fusion, Tata Indigo, Hyundai Accent besides Maruti Ritz the upcoming product from Maruti's stable. General Motors will join the small car bandwagon with a new compact car priced below Spark. It will also enter the premium sedan market with Cruze in the next few months and bring the automatic version of its Captiva SUV. Europe’s largest-carmaker Volkswagen’s new factory in Maharashtra will roll out Skoda Yeti, Roomster and Fabia’s Combi variant. The company may also launch its small car Polo by the year-end. French-Japanese combination Renault-Nissan has already told that due to global slowdown the company put on hold the launch of the cars. Nissan, the other partner of the company, is determined to roll out its cars as scheduled in 2010. Some luxury car makers are also planning to launch their car models in India. They all accept that number of sold cars would not be a good figure but they expect to grow the market.
