You're in your 2nd trimester. You're beginning to get some of your energy back and are busy planning for your new arrival. However, your feet are swollen and it's difficult to get comfortable at night. Your thoughts are focused on the little one soon to arrive, but when would be a better time to focus on you? As a recent Mom, for the second time, I know from experience that a day or a week of pampering is just what you need! A change of scenery wouldn't be a bad idea either!

You are not the only one who is going thru changes though. That special man in your life is, not only dealing with the changes you are experiencing, but may very well be a little anxious himself. The new responsibilities of a child, especially for a first time father, can be a bit overwhelming. Dad is in need of something a little extra too!

So what do you do? Take a "babymoon"! You may have heard the term by now due to recent coverage on the Today Show, Fox News and other local networks. For those of you who have not, and need to know, a babymoon is a getaway just for the two of you – focused on rest, relaxation, and re-connecting with each other prior to becoming a trio.

You don't have to go far away to experience a babymoon either. The babymoon idea started with many hotels and retreats within the US offering pre-baby packages. California and New York have the most to offer, however, resorts scattered throughout the USA are catching on to the idea – even Alaska! If a more exotic destination is more your speed, the Caribbean and even Europe, Asia, and Africa have babymoon packages to offer.

The Caribbean packages, in addition to being a babymoon package, are often all inclusive or have some meals included as well. Packages are available in Jamaica, Anquilla, the British Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, and Bermuda with more surely to be added.

The packages come under a variety of names – "Bundle of Joy", "Baby's on the Way", "Motherhood in Balance", "Great Expectations" – but they all offer the same thing, a chance to be pampered and spoiled. A typical package would include things such as:
• Suite room accommodations
• Extra pillows in room
• In-room amenities such as pickles, chocolate bars, and Ginger Ale
• Special room service menus to satisfy those pregnancy cravings
• Spa treatments for her – manicure, pedicure, massage – often in room
• Gym time or golf for him
• Specially arranged "alone time" – couples foot massage, candle lit dinners, reserved hammocks
• Gift baskets

A trip to your doctor prior to your departure is recommended, just to be sure that it is safe for you to travel. Depending on your stage of pregnancy, some airlines require a note of release from your doctor.

So, the nursery is almost ready and you've read all the books. At this point it is basically a waiting game. So rather than just sitting around, why not take that getaway to rejuvenate and refresh yourselves before the big day! A Babymoon is just what you need to do! You'll be glad you did.
