Not every driver is aware that in terms of insurance, there are certain milestones which will significantly lower the terms of their car insurance. Milestones are slightly different for male and female drivers, so there are specific points in the life of a female driver when it is necessary to compare women’s car insurance quotes in order to make sure you are getting the best deal possible.

Of all of the relevant markers, one thing that insurers take most note of over time is your age. Female drivers tend to drive slower and safer than their male counterparts anyway, but drivers are deemed to have matured at certain age milestones. With that maturity comes greater care and respect for the road, and ultimately fewer accidents. As a young female driver, a noticeable milestone will be when you reach the age of 21. A lot of insurers will reduce their quote if the driver is 21 or over, so your 21st birthday is a good time to compare women’s car insurance to find a more competitive quote with a lower premium.

Similar reductions can be expected at the 25-year mark and 30-year milestone. If you started driving at the youngest possible age of 17, it may well be worth looking around for an insurance renewal once you hit 18 as even this small gap is a mark of enhanced maturity as far as insurers are concerned.

The next milestone that insurers will look for is how long you have been driving. Even if you are over 25 and qualify for significantly cheaper quotes when you compare women’s car insurance with say, an 18-year-old woman, if you have only recently earned your licence then you will have a higher insurance premium. Each year you have been driving is an important milestone as it gives you more experience on the road and should make you a more competent driver. However, getting that first year under your belt is perhaps the most significant milestone, followed by the five and then ten-year experience landmark.

Along with your age and driving experience, insurers will want to know how many accidents you have had in your driving career. The reductions afforded by having multiple years of no-claims bonus can reduce your insurance quote by up to 75 per cent. The significant milestones for no-claims discount are after the first year (typically 30 per cent off) and after the fifth year (typically 60 per cent off). Generally speaking then, as a female driver, it is always a wise idea to compare women’s car insurance quotes when you hit the ages of 21, 25 and 30 and once you have been driving for one year and five years.
