Did any poet who wrote about romance ever dream that love and romance would one day become part of the field of medical studies? But that is happening. Those in passionate romantic love, experience sweaty palms and butterflies in the stomach. A study has found that it is the result of rise in a protein called nerve growth factors.

Will a day come when we will get these proteins from our druggists and experience romantic love? I am just joking about that, but it may also turn out to be true. An Italian study has found that this growth factor declines after a year or so after being in romance. Have you felt the difference between early phase and later phase of romance? That is all because of this chemical. Now whether our feelings change the level of the chemical or whether the body reduces the chemical may be subject of another research.

Another study has found that though passionate romance of high level may not last long, some passion may still last for years. That means that we may still love our partner romantically after years and years. Life would be so lovely if passion could be maintained for years and years. What do you think? I think that passionate romance is reduced by nature itself because those in early phase of romance feel like doing nothing else, while nature wants that they produce offspring, bring them up, search for food and carry on other mundane activities to maintain life. Nature is selfish - it always acts in a manner to protect itself.

The next time you fall in romance, get your level of nerve growth factors checked and when you start becoming normal again, get the level checked again. All romance will go away when you realize that a protein was all that was responsible.
