It is now well know that when you use positive thoughts and approaches to dog obedience training, your dog will enjoy his training and reward you with good behavior. Treating your dog with kindness and respect will determine how he will learn and behave during training.

Using positive training is the only way to train your dog with lasting effects. Your dog will remember what you taught him for a long time. Giving your dog pain to behave and learn new behaviors is now outdated.

The fact is that positive reinforcement works with dogs. Your dog wants to make you happy, meaning that positive reinforcement works better with dogs and is better remembered.

Here are more tips and ideas that you can use to do dog training. Don’t try to train your dog on a lot of different commands in the first day. Only work on one command so your dog does not get confused.

1. Give your dog the reward it wants. When you integrate an excellent reward to give to your dog, you dog will definitely pay attention. He’s not going to miss getting some more of that good stuff after he follows your instructions. Use his favorite snack and see him perform.

2. Timing is everything when you do dog obedience training. When you give a command and your dog obeys, you need to give them a reward immediately so that they will associate the behavior with the treat. If you wait, your dog won’t understand why they’re getting the treat – make sure to give rewards promptly and this will improve your dog training results.

You can use a helper to train your dog, called a clicker. This clicker is a metal device that you hold in your hand. But don’t be clicking it when you are not training. When you tell your dog to do something, “no jump” and he stops jumping, click the clicker and immediately give your dog a reward. The clicker can be an effective train tool, since it combines your voice, the click, and a reward for your dog.

You don’t have to use the clicker, but some people like it. Use your voice as a clicker. When you give a command try to keep the same pitch and tone. Give a command feeling positive and strong. Don’t use this voice tone when you are not training your dog.

When you start with your dog obedience training, determine what type of command technique you will use. Don’t use the clicker one day and your strong voice the next. Always be consistent with the way you train your dog. This will eventually let your dog know that it is training time. If you make training fun, your dog will look forward to dog training time.

Even if your dog is exceptionally smart, you need to keep in mind that your dog can only understand a few words. You can teach your old dog new tricks, but you have to be consistent with both markers and rewards in order to be successful in teaching your dog desirable behaviors.

With your patience, love, and care during your dog obedience training, you dog will start to see and understand what you are trying to teach him or her. Don’t rush the training, since your dog has a mind of its own and knows what it want to do and does it instantly. But with repetition, you will be rewarded with new behavior from your dog.
