The fast pace of modern day living is full of hassles that can put an undue strain on you both physically and mentally. The problem is that it is quite normal to experience feelings of anxiety or stress. The difficult part is being able to distinguish whether this is just a natural reaction you have to certain situations or if it is an actual disorder.

Let’s say for example that you have just started a new job. It’s perfectly normal to be a bit anxious at first. You’ll be meeting new people, getting used to unfamiliar databases, paperwork and procedures. This can be a stressful time for the majority of people and it’s quite natural to feel this way until you get settled in. The important thing is that you can just get on with the situation.


If you suffer from an anxiety disorder however, all of these new changes can be overwhelming. Instead of coping you might find it physically impossible to go into work and you end up ringing in sick on your second or third day.

I think this is one of the key factors in recognising whether you have a real problem or not. The feelings of anxiety and stress are never pleasant but if you can put them to the back of your mind and carry on with your everyday life as normal then all’s well. If however, you find that your anxiety actually stopping you from carrying out everyday tasks then it might be an idea to consult your doctor.
