Executive Summary – The USA Real ID Act was a way for the federal government to turn state driver licenses into national ID cards. These would be useful for surveillance of citizens, tracking movements etc. The bill calls for approved driver licenses only to be used for ID when boarding aircraft etc. If your state does not have a real ID driver license then a passport or other id would need to be used for such purposes.
Reasons for the Real ID – Would it be to detain and deport illegal aliens? No, they are not interested in that. How about stopping terrorists getting on airplanes. Come on get real. How about invading the privacy and security of citizens?

Discussion – Now for some reason Obama is talking of dropping the Real ID Act. See he takes the Ostrich approach to big trouble form the states and hides his head in the ground. He is the perfect President for states rights to move forward. The problem is since Obama cannot prove his birth in USA and the Supreme Court has already decided to take the case he may not be around for very long. Hopefully states rights have enough inertia so as to keep going even with a new President.
