In the terms of marketing, in the past you would submit articles to directories, signup for traffic exchanges and perform SEO techniques on your websites in hopes of getting an increase in the amount of traffic that you receive.
Traffic exchanges for the most part are still done today, but they are not the best way to receive really good traffic. Some of the affiliate programs that you may have on your websites can also reject you and Adsense will definitely ban you, because they perceive the traffic from these exchanges to be false page impressions.
You are not really getting visitors and your site will usually be viewed by others who are trying to do the same thing that you are. They want visitors as well. If you join an automatic traffic exchange program, you will be receiving even less actual page views, because other users will simply set the website and walk away. To use an old infomercial slogan, they will “set it and forget it”.
A few techniques that have been around for years but are still worth doing are SEO and article directory submission. You want your website to be correctly formatted so that it is readable and ready to be indexed by the search engines. Writing and submitting articles to free article directories will in time, send new visitors to your websites, via your link and information at the bottom of your content.
To increase traffic on blog, make sure that you are writing articles and blog posts that are relevant and informative. If you churn out the same information as everyone else, you won’t become the go to person when someone wants new tips and ideas.
Exchange links with other blog owners who have blogs in a similar category. This is for business and to attract new customers, so you should avoid an exchange of links with blogs that are competing directly with your business.
Gain new visitors and back links through visits and communication in forums and other blog posts and comments. Communicating and spamming are two different things.
You will want to create an account at a forum that is similar to your business and blog. Introduce yourself and interact with the other members of the blog. You’re not there to sell and push people to click on your links.
In fact, that sort of behavior will have you banned from most respectable forums. Before or even after you have opened an account at one or more forums make sure that you read the rules of the site to know what you can and can’t do.
