Internet marketing is the same as any other business - anyone can
succeed. You don't need to be a genius to succeed, you don't need huge
start up capital to succeed, but there are certain attributes and
abilities that you need to be able to apply.
1. FOCUS
The internet is an exciting and bewildering place. It is very easy to
get side tracked and tempted by the vast array of offers and incredible
opportunities - "GRAB IT NOW!! IT WON'T BE HERE TOMORROW!!" I am sure
that we have all seen these offers and occasionally taken them up on
this. No doubt most of these are excellent opportunities to earn money
- the problem is that you only have so much time and capital at your
disposal. Think about the analogy of using the sun through a
magnifying glass to set light to a piece of paper. If you keep moving
this around you will never succeed, but maintain the focus steadily for
a period of time and you will set it alight. Use the same principle in
your internet business and you will set it ablaze too.
2. TAKE ACTION
It doesn't matter how wonderful your product is, and how much you know,
if you don't act you will never achieve anything. I know that I often
procrastinate because of fear of the unknown, or because I don't think
that I really know how to do something. Usually, when you actually
start doing it, you find that it is much easier than you thought, and
the rewards are worth the effort. Anytime you find yourself putting
off a task, ask yourself why - the answer is more than likely to be
"because I don't know how to" The best way to learn is to try. Doing
teaches more than reading. Now I don't mean that you should ignore
other peoples teachings - learn from their mistakes, use their guides
and manuals - but don't wait until you know everything, you will only
become a master by doing.
3. BE WILLING TO LEARN AND TAKE SOME RISKS
It doesn't cost much to set up an internet marketing business compared
to a conventional business, but there are some costs involved. How
much these are depends on you, but you cannot get away without incurring some costs. That is one type of risk. The other type of risk is the willingness to try something new and possibly scary. Be prepared to make a fool of yourself sometimes. Apart from the monetary rewards that come with risk taking the personal growth experienced is fantastic.
4. DO SOME WORK
I know that your ultimate goal in setting up an internet marketing
business is to reduce the amount of time spent working - and it should
do that. But in the initial stages most people continue working at
their full time job until their marketing business is providing enough
income to allow them to resign. I also found that initially, while I
was learning the technical skills, it took me a lot longer to do
anything. A task that might take an expert 10 minutes was taking more
than an hour. This should be a business that requires minimum hours
once it is set up and running, but it does require some work, and needs
your attention from time to time.
5. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
For people to be willing to buy from you, and more importantly, to do
repeat business with you, they must like and trust you. It is important
to establish an image of reliability and integrity. Deal honestly and
openly with problems. Consistently overdeliver on your promises.
Don't promise something that you can't deliver. Help other people to
duplicate your achievements as this is the true key to success. Build
up a mentoring relationship with likeminded and enthusiastic people.
6. CONSISTENCY
Keep at it. Schedule your daily tasks and stick to them - many small
actions repeated daily build up a massive momentum.
7.HAVE FUN
When you approach your daily tasks with the attitude of enjoyment, not
only are you happier, but everyone that comes into contact with you and
your products is happier too. If you want someone to return make their
experience an enjoyable one.
OK WHAT ARE YOU WAITNG FOR? GO AND DO IT.
