Some of the following laws are considered funny, weird or dumb, but are absolutely still recorded and in effect in the State of Ohio. Make sure you’re aware of them to avoid violating them in any way!

Effective September 1985 and reaffirmed December 2005: If your wild animal escapes, you must let law enforcement know within one hour. If you do not, you are guilty of a first degree misdemeanor. Keep a tight leash on your lions, tigers, and bears! (Statute 2927.21 Report escape of dangerous animals)

Effective July 1996: Unless you are authorized by law, you may not treat a human corpse in a way you know will outrage reasonable family sensibilities. That would be a second degree misdemeanor. (Statute 2927.01 Abuse of a corpse)

Effective May 2002: Funny enough, it is illegal in Ohio to knowingly poison anyone. However, you may place poison or other harmful substances in the water supply in order to make it safe for human consumption and use. Go figure! (Statute 2927.24 Contaminating substance …)

Effective July 2007: Beer, intoxicating liquor, or alcohol seized from a person who does not have a liquor license is considered forfeited. That alcohol then may be sold by the Liquor Control department if they want to, or used for training related to law enforcement activities. Hey everyone - party in Ohio! (Statute 2981.12 Disposal of unclaimed or forfeited property)

Fishermen must also be aware that it is illegal to get a fish drunk, and you are absolutely not allowed to fish for whales on Sundays!

Here’s one that may be a great defense if you’re ever arrested for partying in Ohio: it is illegal to arrest anyone on Sundays or on the Fourth of July, so throw caution to the wind and have fun!

Violating one of these laws is no laughing matter, though the law you’re breaking may be. If you find yourself in the midst of charges related to one of these silly laws, contact an attorney immediately to protect your rights.
