There are two schools of thought on the issue of the ability to find emotional intimacy with Internet Dating. Is it actually possible to find this intimacy or are we finding a false intimacy?

Basically speaking, the dating seeking world is definitely evolving from even several years ago and dating is a whole new ball game now. So, what does Internet dating offer and can you find intimacy? The school of thought that is for Internet dating expounds on the fact that when you are writing emails or chatting online you are more likely to be vulnerable and share intimate secrets. You are less inhibited by the face-to face meetings and more emotional growth is possible.

One drawback to this perspective is that it is so easy to be misunderstood in an email or an online chat for the simple reason that you are not looking into each other's eyes. This is true even when speaking on the phone. There is a lot to be said for the intimate sharing of ideas and feelings when you can look into someone's eyes and communicate. Misunderstandings are lessened when you have that eye contact.

What can be said about the opposing school of thought that Internet dating is not all that it's cracked up to be? For starters, as we just mentioned, eye contact is crucial to facilitating emotional growth and maturity. However, this emotional growth and maturity in a face-to-face dating environment is not achieved early on in the relationship because we are not so vulnerable when we first meet someone. This is a plus for the Internet dating experience because of the ease with which we have the freedom to communicate online, we can achieve this emotional connection early on in the relationship.

Some people are hard-pressed to call Internet dating being in a relationship because the traditional thought is that if you haven't even met someone yet, how can you be in a relationship? Although, in this day and age, more and more people are meeting online and falling in love.

What if you are shy and not having good success in finding a love and you're not afraid to venture out online, should you begin with Internet dating or online matchmaking? The difference between Internet dating and online matchmaking is that the former is an online environment to meet like-minded people interested in such online relationships with possible face to face meetings. The latter is more focused on the art of matchmaking and you will have a safe environment where you will be paired up with a compatible match with like-minded relationship goals.

Some examples of Internet dating sites are eharmony and match. These online sites do not usually run background checks on their members; however, online matchmaking sites do run checks. Some online matchmaking companies are Vip Singles, which is geared toward professional singles looking to find like-minded singles. Another online matchmaking site is Mature Singles Only, which is a site that is geared toward like-minded mature singles; another site is Seeking Marriage which is geared toward those seeking long-term commitment rather than a casual dating experience.
