Web traffic is a very important factor in how successful a website is. You can have the best website in the world, but if no one sees it, building it becomes redundant. There are many ways of getting your website noticed, the best way is through search engines. Getting your website to rank highly in the search engines can be difficult but there are some underlying fundamentals that will help you. Each search engine is different in the way it ranks sites. The three major search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN, now know as Bing. To get high ranks on these search engines can take time and a lot of work, depending on which keywords you want to be ranked under. Yahoo is one of the easiest search engines to get high ranks on. To get good rankings on Yahoo you need to remember three basic fundamentals. Yahoo likes big sites that cover one topic, the keyword in the domain name of the site and incoming links.

For our example website we will use a vacuum cleaner site and try to rank highly for the keywords "vacuum cleaner reviews" on the Yahoo search engine. The biggest key to getting your site ranked on Yahoo is the size of the site and the information that you have on it. Yahoo seems to like large sites about one topic. In our example, this would be a site that is about vacuum cleaners and encompasses many topics about vacuums. The larger the site, and the more information, the higher your site will rank. So in our example site we would explore everything that has relevance to vacuum cleaners. Examples of this would be, how they work, which are the best ones, pros and cons of each vacuum and so on. Like all search engines, Yahoo loves large blocks of text. Make sure that your information is fresh and in your own words, and try to find information that is not common in competing sites.

An easy way to score big with Yahoo is to incorporate your main keyword into the domain name. Some search engine optimization gurus frown on this method of ranking highly and many others even call this method cheating. In the search engine world getting to the top is all that matters and every bit of help counts. A great example of this method is a site I created called hoovervacuum.net. This site has very few incoming links and is not very big. This site however has a rank of fourth place for the key phrases Hoover vacuum, Hoover vacuums, and Hoover vacuum cleaners. The only site that beats this site is the actual manufacturer itself. This ranking was achieved by inserting the main keywords Hoover and vacuum into the domain name and placing 10 incoming links from quality cleaning related websites.

The final fundamental of ranking highly on Yahoo is the incoming links. Unlike Google and Bing, Yahoo looks at the relevance of the incoming link but not as closely as other search engines. The advice I can give for incoming links on Yahoo is the more the better. Paste you text links everywhere you can. Great examples of this would be forums, article sites, blogs, even sites like Facebook. With Yahoo, every incoming link counts. For our vacuum cleaner site example I would post reviews on the site and text link the keywords "vacuum cleaner reviews" to the page on the site where the reviews reside. The key to link posting is how creative can you be.

With these three ranking fundamentals in mind you should have a good start to increasing your rankings on Yahoo. The information I have given are the bare basics to climbing the search engine ladder. If you follow these basic principles your site should start to climb the Yahoo charts. Remember to be motivated and have plenty of patience in your ranking endeavors. Ranking changes take months if not years to achieve and quick short cuts will get you to number one quickly but only for a short while. The best advice I can give anyone who wants to be at the top for their chosen keywords is to build the best website you can and once you're their keep on building. If you truly want to have the best website, make it bigger and better than your competitors.

Quality information about vacuum cleaners and how to create successful and powerful websites. Large websites with diverse topics and many vacuum cleaner reviews about the newest units.
