The Peugeot 307 was awarded the European Car of the Year title for 2002 and International Car of the Year award in 2001.

The Peugeot 307 started production in 2001. The 307 had the difficult task of replacing the 306 – Peugeot’s best seller of all time – though the 206 went on to overtake 306 sales. More than 2.7 million Peugeot 306s were produced. Like many Peugeots in recent years, the 307 continued in production for some time after its replacement – the Peugeot 308 – was introduced. The Peugeot 307 CC, SW and estate variants are still manufactured alongside the 308.

In theory the 307 is a true cracker of a car, as it won the Car of the Year award in 2002 – but history has shown that it’s not always the best cars which win this title. However, while reliability can be a major issue for 307 owners, the car has much to offer, with a wide range of bodystyles, engines and trim levels. Most 307s are also pretty well equipped, practical and comfortable too – just check any car very carefully before buying.

Peugeot had its work cut out replacing the 306, which was as good to look at as it was to drive. Unfortunately the 307 proved to be a backwards step both aesthetically and (to a degree) dynamically, but it was a big leap forward in terms of safety, packaging and equipment. Now the 307 has also been superseded by the 308, the model still has much to offer – as long as you can find a good one, which might not be as easy as it sounds.

The Peugeot 307 hatchback is available with 3 or 5 doors and six engine options which include three petrol engines a 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 litre and three diesel engines a 1.4, 2.0 ( 90 bhp) and 2.0 (110 bhp).

The Peugeot 307 SW is one of the estate versions of the car and has the option of seven seats. The 307 CC four-seater coupé-cabriolet, which went into production in 2003, has a fully automatic solid retractable hood.

Peugeot chose not to add a GTi model to the 307 range, instead opting to give their top-spec model – the Feline – a powerful 2-litre petrol engine (180 PS). Although the Feline is not a GTi, its engine is powerful and capable of 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds.
