"Living "la vida loca" (the good life ) a totally different meaning for ORM Associate Evangelist Adrian Compton than it once did." Winner of the Latin American World Star Search competition as a university student, with a successful Latin American recording contract that followed, Adrian shortly found himself living a life of rapid-fire success. But the "good life" was anything apart from good for this gifted young man in his early 20s. What began with a promise never to compromise quickly deteriorated due to constant pressure of many worldly accoutrements that trapped him. Proud of her child's success, but terribly worried about where his life was headed, it was Adrian's mom, Lety Compton, who threw out a lifeline to her child. Even when their own relationship became strained, she repeatedly reminded him that God had something better for his life.
Saved at the age of twelve while involved in a State Finals college competition, Adrian commenced doing humanitarian and missions work in numerous Central and South America countries while still in middle college. Aiding a beloved teacher and mentor, he became a fast learner as he traveled, singing and ministering to those less lucky, as their team worked in conditions of acute poverty.
But the dream in Adrian's heart was to make it in the music business. With the Star Search championship, that dream became realityuntil it virtually consumed his life. During that time, Adrian continued his missions work exclaiming, "I would take time off and attempt and leave my worldly living behind me so I could travel and minister." But that became tougher over time.
Waking up one day and realizing that if he continued the path he was on, he would meet an early grave, Adrian "came to himself" in the way the Bible described what happened to the prodigal child in Luke 15 and he gave his life back to the Lord. He realized his ma was right and that God did have something more for his life.
Today, Adrian a gurus of divinity graduate finds himself living a different sort of "good life." this occassion, it has nada to do with the accoutrements of celebrity, but is outlined by catching an aircraft before dawn to travel to bankrupt areas of the planet where he can preach the Gospel, sing about God's goodness, and help provide common-or-garden prerequisites of food and medicines to people in need through the efforts of Oral Roberts Ministries and Hunger requires a Voice's medical and feeding outreaches.
Says Adrian, "I'm grateful I've had the opportunity to help open up some of the Latin American countries to Richard's ministry. Besides helping to line up the contacts we need to get in, I have also had the concession of going into folk's houses who are too sick to come to our crusades and praying with them right there.
The needs are so great. And our being there actually talks to the people.
