Child abuse is rampant in the country like India. People in our country are not taking cognizance of the fact that the child labor in any form is punishable under IPC, still we come across children walking on pavements asking for alms. The poverty is one of the reasons for them to come on streets, parents of these children are not empowered enough to make them study and stand on their own feet; though, they want their kids to graduate and find the jobs that they would never think they could do in their life, but their situation is such that they have to force their kids to work in factories and mines or come on streets.

Children from remote villages throng big metropolises like Delhi and Mumbai to get some work. There is no respite to these children; their whole childhood is spent in working and meeting two ends. The Government of India has come up with the various measures to save their precious childhood. Many NGO’s are active in this field but still their conditions have not improved. The Indian Job Market doesn’t give the parents an opportunity to get a job; they search jobs but to no avail and in the process become active jobseeker.

The Ladli Scheme launched by Delhi’s Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit is a step towards right direction in making the girl child empowered. Also, the Chalta Firta school—an initiative taken by the NGO’s—is remarkable in making these kid’s empowered, they can study and play at the same time.

The Article 24 of the Indian constitution, clearly states “No child below the age of fourteen years shall be employed to work in any factory or mine or engaged in any other hazardous employment”. But, still the child labor is practiced and this article doesn’t hold much value. Laws are getting made for the protection of child’s right but they are constantly thwarted, the amendments in various articles have no impact in improving the situation of children—in short laws are of no use, a country like India that houses people belonging to different religions and ethnicities under one roof doesn’t have a law mechanism in place.

Children are the shadow of God and it is not for any reason they are called the father of men. We, as Indian, should contribute to their welfare—a mere contribution from our side helps them in achieving their dreams and bring twinkle to their eyes.

Contribute to the cause of children—their smile will definitely bring a smile on your face.

Children are our future and we don’t have the right to play with their future.

Remember the childhood is to preserve not to THRAWT.
