Clever marketing is behind a lot of successful branding and often the belief amongst consumers is that the most expensive is the best. In the case of dietary supplements this is not always the true picture.
I've looked at little closer into the best omega3 oils, and the numerous factors that determine how really good they are. That data is often hard to get to the bottom of if all you have access to is the information on the label, which could be leaving out some bits of the puzzle you need.
What is should show is the amount of fish oils or dosage within each capsule and the types used. Briefly speaking, the better quality supplements will use ultra refined oils but this could also be hard to figure out if it doesn't mention it anywhere.
If it shows a combined dosage of DHA and EPA that's a start as the former is a good fatty acid to have in your pill. If that figure is high then you're on the right track, as a daily fish oil dose of around 1000mg/day is what's recommended.
Often the best omega3 supplement makers have a website you can go to access more product information, which is a big plus. What we're looking for is things like the purity and freshness of their fatty acids, and even which fish are used. Yes, that's important as a good many of our oceans are polluted with such things as heavy metals, PCB's and dioxins. If your capsule uses fish harvested from largely non-polluted waters the you're on to a winner.
My own research has uncovered one such source, and I share that information on my other site. Please keep in mind that the best omega3 supplements are truly effective in delivering so many of those stated health benefits.
Peter Foremski is an avid researcher into the benefits of taking fish oils. On his fish oils site
