Roles of MGL application
The Milkor MGL-140 can be used in both the offensive and defensive missions by conventional and irregular forces. In its conventional role it can be issued to Infantry forces as a first weapon in both the direct- and indirect fire grenadier role.
The high mental impact and shock impact of the acute fire power make the MGL-140 the ultimate weapon for Special and other Elite forces, including Police SWAT teams.
The MGL-140 weighs much less than a normal assault rifle and is therefore easy to operate from confined spaces during mobile, and maritime operations. It is ideal for use by fast deployment forces whether deployed by land, sea or air.
The MGL-140 can be used with non-lethal ammunition and is therefore ideally suitable for use by Law Enforcement agencies in Crowd Management missions and in Detention or Jail Management where the use of dangerous force is unwanted or unwarranted.
Weapon Description
The MGL-140 uses a gradually rifled steel barrel, within in a stainless steel frame. This format has the advantage that all loaded rounds are instantly available to the soldier when the weapon is opened and any loaded rounds can be modified at random.
The cylinder is driven by a spring that is rewound by rotating the cylinder during reloading. Cylinder advance and alignment are by an inertia operated advance mechanism that is activated when a round is fired. The advance mechanism can also be operated manually to choose the following round and to advance the cylinder in case of a misfire. An extractor is fitted to the back of the cylinder to help the expulsion of spent cartridge cases.
The sight is mounted on a NATO-standard rail for speedy removal. The electrical reflex sight immediately adjusts the brightness of the reticule to adjust for current light settings. The sight base provides rapid range adjustment and compensates automatically for the natural spin-induced drift of the grenades. The grid reticule permits fast aiming point adjustment and rapid range adjustments.
Alternatively the MGL-140 can be used with the Regular Sight. The mechanical sight is a less expensive option for use at shorter ranges.
The adjustable stock is of a very light composite and an integral recoil pad keeps it gentle of the shoulder. The stock has two positions: the open position extends the butt backwards. For storage, transport, and use in enclosed spaces, the stock can be closed to shorten the weapon by 80mm. The stock also has two vertical positions that may be selected to allow easier firing at higher elevation angles.
