If for some reason you do not know what flipping means, which would in fact be a little strange if you are reading this and you are in the UK as the media has been about little else other than ‘flipping' and ‘Britain's got Talent' for the last few weeks, we will explain.
The word ‘flipping' has been coined to describe an act carried out by Members of Parliament in which they designate one house as their main home and another house as their second home. They are entitled to claim expenses on their second home, so they have been able to use taxpayers' money to carry out renovations on their second home, often renovating it to a high standard and costing the taxpayer a significant amount of money, often tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds. Once they are satisfied that they have done all they can in terms of spending our money on this home, they then re-designate the renovated home as their main home and re-designate their main home as their second home. This re-designation process is knows as ‘flipping'. They can now set about renovating the home that has been flipped to their second home, costing us, the taxpayer another tranche of money. When this home has been renovated to a high degree, it will be flipped back to the main home and sold at a vast profit. As it is now the main home there will be no need to pay any capitals gain tax on the profits made from the sale. The profits themselves will be used to purchase another home in need of renovation. This will be flipped to the second home and the process will continue ad infinitum.
One minister based in the Manchester area has been flipping garden sheds. Each time he flipped residences he purchased a top quality garden shed for this second home, so in a short period of time ended he up with two brand new garden sheds. Well, garden sheds are as important and useful to a government minister as they are to the rest of us, but the rest of us are quite willing to pay for our own.

Nowadays MPs are not just flipping homes, they are flipping garden sheds.
