The main part of Exmoor national park is in Somerset with the final third the north of Devon and is famous for the instantly recognisable landscape known for the moorlands filled with heather,isolated valley's and stony Sea fronts. There are a myriad of quaint villages with some of notable fame such as Bossington, Selworthy and Allerford. The coastal villages are equally beautiful such as Porlock a renowned picturesque coastal village that is an inspiration for many painters and Lynton and Lynmouth famous for the Victorian railway.

There are a range of excellent sites to view across Exmoor's wild landscape, from the historic Dunster Castle, as it is built high upon a hill the prospects are truly something to behold. Dunkery Beacon is at the summit of the Exmoor National Park and also has truely spectacular views with a trig point and a toposcope on the summit. Views to the north include the Mendips and the Brecon Beacons and south facing there is Dartmoor and Bodmin although it all depends upon the weather on any given day.


Withypool has some local interesting sites to visit as there is a stone circle nearby comprising of forty short stones. There is also a stone bridge to visit called the Tarr step which crosses the river Barle. Wimbleball Lake is Exmoor's largest lake and does a variety of water based activities.

Exmoors unrivalled splendour has moved many creative people over the last few hundred years including Lorna Doone by R.D. Blackmore which is focused around the village of Oare, referred to as Doone Country in the book it is evident that Exmoor has deeply inspired R.D.Blackmore.

The wildlife is can be a major factor in wanting to visit the park, together with the world famous ponies there are bats, badgers and red deer to spot on your tours of the park. The National Park protects the homes of over eighty individual species of birds including native and migrant to see in the beautiful woodland environment, this is uniquely magical at springtime as it is carpeted in bluebells.
