When you think of portable gaming devices, the gaming unit that almost always comes to mind first is the Sony PSP. Portable gaming has come a long way from the days of playing Tetris on the Nintendo Game Boy, which was released in 1989. Gone are the days of single player, single color game play. The Sony PSP offers a large full color screen, multiplayer game play, instant messaging, Skype, full-length movies and internet browsing. Those long trips to grandma’s house just got a whole lot quieter.

As much as these Sony PSPs tend to be used, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they may need an occasional tune up, or worst-case scenario, a total PSP repair. Some tech-savvy people may try their hand at fixing their PSP themselves, while some wouldn’t even give that a second thought.

If you do a search for “PSP repair guide” on the internet, you’ll find several links to sites that offer PSP Repair Manuals for around $10. These repair manuals might suffice for those tech-savvy people who know which part needs to be repaired or replaced. But for those who are leery of opening up an electronic device, keeping track of all the tiny screws and sifting through cables and clamps, the safest route would be to locate a PSP repair company either online or locally.

If you consider the price of the manual plus the price of the PSP parts will come out to approximately the price of having a PSP diagnosed and repaired professionally, it seems obvious as to what route should be taken. For instance, an online vendor is selling the PSP 3001 LCD screen for $65. Add the $10 for the Repair manual and your total is $75. That same vendor is offering the PSP 3001 LCD repair service for $75 and that includes the PSP part.

A brand new Sony PSP is priced just short of $200. That’s a considerable investment. As you consider whether to service your PSP yourself or have a professional diagnose and repair the device for you, carefully compare the actual costs and decide for yourself how much you are willing to spend to keep your investment performing optimally.
