Best Places to Retire in Southeast Asia

Have you ever thought of moving abroad for retiring? To country in Southeast-Asia like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia? I've lived in many parts of the world but the one I liked most have to be in Southeast Asia. It may not be easy for some of us to adapt to change as we grow older, but assuming that you are considering, here's the up and downside of retiring in Southeast Asia.

The Retirement Home & The Lifestyle.

Housing prices around here in Asia is relatively low but that depends on where you want to be. In Singapore, it will more expensive but if you are looking at Phuket, Bali, or Chiangmei, for $100.000, you get a nice size home to enjoy. The price tag that I am saying may even come with a swimming pool! and you don't even have to worry about the maintenance, you can easily employ a full time maid to help you to maintain the house. The cost of a full time maid in Thailand is about $160 per month while in Indonesia, its only $55! However it will cost you $400 to get a housekeeper in Singapore and housing in Singapore will be slightly smaller too.

The greatest advantages of living over here are the exchange rate and the low cost in standard of living. Dining out is cheap here too! And if you are those type who does not like to cook or worry about the financial constraint of dining out too often, the market here offer many ready cook meal for you to take home. Especially in Thailand, it is cheaper to buy the ready cook than to cook it yourself at home. The average price in Thailand and Indonesia will be $1 while in Singapore is about $2. So, with the retirement income of $1000 per month, it will allow you and your spouse to live off comfortably here in Southeast Asia.

Then again you will start thinking of the language barrier, you may be surprised to know that most current asian countries speak English rather fluently and these are very friendly people.

Travelling.

With the rising numbers in the budget airlines, airfare within this part of the world is LOW and I mean really low. You can easily go for a weekend break from Singapore to Bangkok for only $200 pp all inclusive. You can also easily hop to Hong Kong for shopping, Chiangmei for golf, Phuket and Bali for beautiful beaches, Indonesia for culture, and many more?

Healthcare.

The most concern aspect of retirement has to be the Retirement Healthcare. You may be surprised to hear that Asia has many leading and well known healthcare system, such as Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand, Gleneagles in Singapore. Prices are relatively low with really good services, in fact many European and American are flying in to Asia for healthcare services. Nurses here do really take care of you and extremely polite people.

With regards to staying permit or visa issue, you may have to contact the embassy individual to know more on the information. It's difficult to decide how we want to retire, but planning early is the real advantage here. It allows you more flexibility of what you can do later in your life.
