There are two main dandruff dilemmas. The first one of course effects the person who is experiencing it, or the parent or loved one of that person. Our first reaction is its cause, and maybe more importantly, how to get rid of it.

Stress

Learn to manage stress. The more stress you are under, the worse your dandruff becomes.

Hair dyes

If you experience flaking or inflamed scalp just after your hair coloring session, chances are, the chemicals in your hair dyes are causing the irritation.

Because of this Jojoba readily penetrates your skin cell tissue and won't clog pores making it a first choice for use as a carrier oil for pure essential oils.

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum)

Fenugreek seeds have curative powers to reduce dandruff. They are softened in water and applied to the scalp every morning. After an hour or so, they are washed with soap nut. This keeps dandruff away and prevents falling hair.

Soak some amalaki (Indian gooseberries) powder in water overnight. In the morning, this powder will have softened. Press the soft powder in the water so that all the juices are exuded into it. Then add the juice of a lemon in the water. This is a very vitamin C rich solution. Wash your hair with this solution. Apply a lot of pressure, and apply the solution just as you do with a shampoo. This will not only stop the hair fall; it will also bring a lively sheen to the hair.

Most people associate dandruff with greasy hair, however, it is possible for the dandruff to cause your hair to become overly dry too. Luckily, whichever form of dandruff you do have, there is always a treatment available for it.

Avoid spicy and greasy food because it helps dandruff to increase and spread. Add more fresh and green vegetables and fruits to the diet. Have a balanced diet containing lots of vitamin A, B6, B12. Avoid intake of fried foods, sugar, chocolates and nuts.

Zinc pyrithione, or Zinc omadine is an anti-fungal and antibacterial agent that is most commonly used to fight the dandruff.

Avoid nuts, chocolate, fried food , shellfish, iodized salt.

Beat two eggs and add two tablespoons of water to it. Wet the hair and apply the egg mixture over the hair. Now massage your scalp and let the mixture on for 10-15 minutes. Olive oil contains vitamin E and other essential vitamins which is good for the skin as well. Apply them to your hair and slowly massage the scalp with your fingers. Boil a handful of neem leaves in 4 teacups of water. After cooling and filtering, use for rinsing hair.

Using a conditioner after shampooing can help counter dryness. Alternating hot and cold water on the head increases circulation to the scalp. Yoga headstands will also help with circulation. Exercising out in the fresh air will also help with circulation to the scalp. Brush your scalp carefully to loosen scales before shampooing. Anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole have been shown to be more effective than zinc pyrithione.
