Bloglines is a popular free blog site, we have added our own blog, its a good way to promote your site as it allows you to add your own choice of feeds and links back to your own site.

Article Alley on Bloglines takes you to our bloglines blog. A good way to help boost the performance of your articles is to create a blog using bloglines or one of the other popular free sites such as Blogger or Wordpress then compose posts and make use of your Article Alley RSS feeds.

Many authors are linking to their own profile pages, which of course helps to get more search engine attention and exposure to your articles.

But an issue that many miss is that authors with more than 15 articles have paginated pages.

Google in particular isn’t very impressed if the only way it can spider its way to your articles is via a pagination number, so if you can link to your own articles, it will help your own promotion efforts. How:-

1) Hyperlink from other articles within ArticleAlley - using anchor text within the body of your articles
this is particularly helpful as your articles get used around the web.
2) Link from your own websites and blogs
3) Post on Forums using the url of your internal profile pages
4) Social boomark your pages using services such as folkd.com
5) Write articles which contain links to your sections on Article Alley and post them to other Article Directories

Feedage is a popular RSS directory where many of our authors post their feeds, it is a free fully categorized and searchable RSS directory. Feedage currently contains RSS, XML, OPML, RDF and Atom feeds.

How to get indexed in Google quickly? Just write a quality article and submit it to Article Alley!

I have read a couple of different articles about how fast articlealley.com pages are getting indexed by Google. I thought it would be interesting to analyze some data.

To know when Google has Indexed a page, I use Google Alerts and Google Blog search both of which helpful. Google alerts sends a mail when an Article Alley related page gets added to it’s index.

Google’s blog search shows a time stamp so this is very handy to pickup the time of changes.

Content added via Article Alley is taking as short as 5 hours to appear in Google’s index - the only problem is that content is taking 24 to 48 hours to be reviewed by our editors and approved - then another few hours to appear on the site.

Shows that Google crawls our site very heavily at the moment - typically crawling or re-crawling 35,000 - 40,000 pages daily.

Every author has their own RSS feed. See the following example from Sarah Martin articles a popular author, who has been with us since June 2008. Sarah contributes her good work on a regular basis. Sarah writes on a whole bunch of topics from coasters to bathroom furniture.

Notice the RSS icon above the Articles displaying 1 to 15?

Her articles get extra attention on the internet because her feeds can be found on a few RSS feed directories such as Feedest and others.

Feedest is good because it previews articles such as Sarahs and gives them a unique page. It makes sense to add your own feed to as many places as your can - do a search on google for feed directories - use them on your sites.

Its easy to improve on the good results you get any way from Article Alley, and if you are serious about article promotion then its a must.

We have been having some issue with spam posting in our database, it mostly appears to be expiring domain names that had been historically used by authors now having been picked up by less reputable users.

When you have 550,000 articles in a database its not so easy to keep tabs on everybody!

For this reason we have added the no-follow attribute to articles, its on a trial basis to see what impact this change has on our traffic and performance, we will review it shortly and may allow authors that post regularly to retain do-follow.

Whilst we were away for the Xmas break a new backlog has built up so we are working back through this now, it should be cleared next week.

Its that time of the year again! We have had a terrific year in 2008, traffic and submissions have risen by more than 110%. We would like to thank all our authors, regulars and visitors for their support this year.

Article Alley continues to be one of the internets most popular article directory sites, with your help in 2009 we are confident that we can improve further with new features and even more content.

We have been working on promoting the pregnancy section of Article Alley this week, its an area we have neglected for a while now. The new wiki feature has some good pages now:-

*Fertility issues * signs of pregnancy * stages of pregnancy

Pregnancy is a niche subject but we do have good authors in this area, Patti Paz Articles for example focus on areas such as Pregnancy, baby showers and right through to graduation.

Traffic in this topic has nearly doubled during the last week as a result of the increased activity, but we will need to see how traffic performs once we move along to the next promotional topic.

If you know of authors in this area spread the word, new authors are always welcome!

Its easy and we recommend bookmarking all your articles in this way.

Been taking a look at the visitor stats a bit more lately, we are pleasantly surprised to see i-pod and i-phone user as well as playstation visitors making it into the top 10 operating system types.

I guess that as there are something like 7 billion mobile devices on the planet - the % source of traffic coming from this type of device is likely to rise. Its probably going to be the biggest area source of internet growth in the next 10 years.
