Cosmetology is the study of application of beauty treatments, and the branches of this study include hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, and electro logy. Cosmetologists and Dermatologists are often used interchangeably, but thereís some difference between the two professions. The medical scope of dermatology is wider. Where Cosmetology deals with the practical application of beauty treatment such as shampooing, make up, skin care specialist, laser treatment and Botox. Dermatology is a science that deals with the formation and physiology of the skin, understand the skin structure and even perform surgery when required. A dermatologist is a certified doctor who is authorized to perform operations, is expected to have basic training in surgery, rheumatology and endocrinology. Thus, Cosmetology and Dermatology are two very different streams of dealing with human skin.

Skin care is a part of cosmetology that deals with maintaining the health of our skin by following a nutritional diet, avoiding excessive sun exposure when possible, and applying emollients which enhance appearance of the skin through the usage of cosmetics, botulinium, laser resurfacing etc., and also control and treat skin breakouts, and treat skin conditions. Cosmetologists are trained to advise people on treating their skin externally through various skin care treatments which do not need a medical backing.

Due to increasing stress/anxiety levels, pollution, diets insufficient in nutrients, and lack of basic skincare regimes including cleansing, toning, moisturising and applying the right kind of sunscreen, people are facing skin breakouts or acne. Our skin is the outermost layer of the body and the most visible, and we must take extra care to keep it healthy.

The demand for Cosmetologists is on the rise as people are getting more conscious of being trendy and fitting in, and facing issues with their physical appearance as they donít get a lot of time to go for regular beauty treatments to the salon. Since our skin is the most visible part of our body, itís necessary to take good care of it. Unhealthy looking skin with various skin conditions can affect the self-esteem of people unless taken care of.

Exclusively depending on external treatments is not enough. Cosmetologists also suggest that what we eat, how much work pressure we deal with, how much time we spend under the sun, how much sleep we get are also factors that decide our skinís health. To ensure healthy and supple skin, people should truly consider consulting a reputed cosmetologist. Being in regular touch with a cosmetologist will make sure that we are following a strict skin care regime. Apart from taking small but important measures like using the right kind of sunscreen for your skin type, drinking lots of water and consuming a balanced diet, a session with a qualified cosmetologist will keep you in check, in case you start neglecting your skin.

A healthy skin boosts our confidence, which gives us immense confidence to go out into the world and also feel great about ourselves, which reflects on our continuously developing personality. Investing your time and money on a Cosmetologist will be a rewarding endeavour. Just make sure that you choose a reliable and reputed one, who is responsible enough to get a deep understanding of your skin before advising any type of treatment.
