Open source vs. closed system: Android is open source software developed and released by the Google under the Apache license. Henceforth many developers are working on and on to create and distribute many new versions of Android to suit multiple requirements. On the other hand iOS is proprietary software developed and owned by Apple. Therefore Apple remains the only one to release new versions of iOS.
