Specialist women-only insurers sprung up a few years ago in recognition that women are safer drivers and therefore represent a lower underwriting risk.
And with insurers realising the potential of marketing plans to women, there are now a wide range of different policies available to the female population.
With adverts decked in pink and catchy soundtracks you can’t help but sing along to, these insurers bring promise of cheaper
car insurance – usually through some kind of Australian slang.
Because of the exclusive nature of these companies, the services offered cater for a wide range of extras in addition to insuring their cars. From handbag cover, a wide network of female-friendly repairers and even a 24-hour counselling line for those suffering stress and trauma on the road.
But aside from all the advertisement, can these companies offer a cheaper
car insurance quote?
According to a recent survey of motor insurers, some of these specialist companies might actually be more expensive than other deals on the market.
There are now a wide range of
motor insurance companies available on the market – including some which cater for women-only. However, there are other steps that can be taken in order to save money on their car insurance:
- In the case of couples, money can usually be saved if the policy is taken out in the woman’s name – whether through a women-only company or not.
- Some companies also offer online discounts for those who take out policies using their websites.
- Adding a little extra to your excess can also be beneficial in future, which could save you up to 25% on your policy but may mean shelling out for any minor knocks and scrapes.
- Check you are not paying for unnecessary cover – such as the option of commuting by car if you always travel to work by train.
- Having a state-of-the-art alarm or immobiliser fitted could help reduce your premiums as well as protect your vehicle from thieves.
