Tate Modern or Tate Gallery of Modern Art in London is a national gallery of international modern art which is excellently positioned along the south bank of the Thames River at Bankside.
This unique museum of modern art is currently housed within a building which was once the Bankside Power Station that was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The building was transformed by renowned architects Herzog and de Meuron and contractors Carillion following the closure of the power station in 1981. The museum opened its gates on 12th May 2000 with a permanent and temporary collection of fine contemporary art.
