Marriage Licenses Requirements You Should Know About
by Bob Cohen

Getting married in Monroe County can be as easy or as difficult as you wish to make it.

There are some basic requirements and fees that have to be dealt with before getting married here. Even though each county in the State of Florida has it's own fees, you can get your license anywhere in the State including the Monroe County Court House, and they are good for any other county in the state.

LICENSE FEE The current fee in Monroe County, Florida for your marriage license is $88.50 payable directly to the Monroe County licensing authority.

You must have a picture ID such as a driver's license or passport, together with proof of previous divorces if applicable.

LICENSE WAITING PERIOD In Florida, you can get married the same day you purchase your marriage license and there is no residency requirement. If you are a Florida Resident, then there is a three day waiting period.

MONROE COUNTY COURT HOUSE Locally, pick up your License at Clerk of the Court, Monroe County Court House, 500 Whitehead Street, Key West, Florida 33030. Open M - F 8:30-4:30, closed holidays, phone 305-294-4641. Directions to the court house: 500 Whitehead Street Take U.S. 1 South on Truman, right on Whitehead, located at mile marker zero.

MARRIAGE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS The license requirements are that both parties must be 18 years of age or older, or 16 with parental consent.

License requirements state that there is no blood test, and no waiting period for Non-Florida Residents. If you are divorced or widowed, the date and/or certificate of divorce or death is necessary. If Your divorce is less then six months ago, you will need to bring your divorce papers.

So, with all that said and and done, getting married in Key West is one of the most desired locations in the entire United States.

Because the island is so small, and also because there are so few good places to have an outdoor wedding, it is well advised to hire a wedding planner such as the services provided by The Whole Nine Yards Wedding Planners as they can give you everything you desire for a truly unforgettable experience.

Born and raised in New York City, and with a passion for photography, apprenticed with a master photographer in Manhattan during his junior and senior year in high school. In November of 1967, he joined the Navy to be a photographer and served with the Navy Combat Camera Group based out of San Diego for two years. He continued his military service and in 1983, while stationed in the Washington, DC area became Navy Photographer of the Year for his production of a multimedia show about the Navy Recruiting Command.

In 1984, he was discharged with a medical disability for his back and stayed in the DC area until 1987 when he and his wife (who was military) got transferred to NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium where they stayed for a little over 3 years. Robert worked as one of two Diplomatic Photographers for the U.S. Embassy in Brussels.

Returning to the states in 1990, he started his own photography business as well as working as a computer technician for the hospitality industry in Key West. Here is where he learned who in Key West owned what as well as who could he rely on for services.

In 2003, Robert started working as a concierge and the following year became the manager of the Key West Welcome Center. Because of all of the contacts Robert Cohen has made during his tenure at the Welcome Center, and because of all of the referrals he was giving away, he decided to open his own Wedding Planning Service.
