If you are dating someone and you want to have a mature dating relationship, how do you handle dating and the holidays? Should you spend the holidays with your partner? Do you spend the holidays with your family or with your partner's family? How do you split your time and when is it the right time to actually start spending time on the holidays with your partner? Every situation is different and varies with the specific circumstances; however, there are some tips you should learn to maneuver in a mature dating relationship with your partner.

When you begin to date someone, you don't usually spend the holidays with this person or include each other in the celebrations you celebrate with each other's families. One other point that will help move you forward into a mature dating relationship is to realize that you and your dating partner have grown up in different families, obviously, and you both have a unique set of values and traditions when it comes to the holidays. You may have celebrated many of the holidays with your family while you were still leaving at home; however, now that you live on your own, you don't really celebrate with your family as much or anymore. However, you may still celebrate with your family; whereas, your partner does not celebrate with his or her family. All of the differences in these various scenarios can cause tension and it makes you work double time to continue to experience a mature dating relationship.

After you start to enter into a committed dating relationship with your partner, you need to have a serious conversation about how you want to spend your holidays and you need to come up with a plan that includes both of you compromising. This open and honest discussion about your feelings and perspectives on this issue will go a long way towards promoting a healthy and mature dating relationship. Just remember, that this subject can get touchy, especially when you are dealing with each others' families and how to combine everyone involved into a workable holiday schedule, while still maintaining the sanity of your mature dating relationship with your partner.

Some possible problems that can arise from this dating and the holidays issue are that you and your partner can get angry and frustrated with each other. It's very hard to keep everyone happy and it is not actually possible to accomplish that feat and it's not your responsibility to make sure everyone is happy. Your first priority should be to your partner, not to your family; that is one major factor in continuing in a mature dating relationship with your dating partner. You will never be able to keep all of your family happy with your decisions on how you and your partner will be spending the holidays; however, you can do your best to keep some semblance of sanity and unity among your family. Just remember, that in order to remain in a mature dating relationship with your partner, your partner is your number one priority.
