Mannequin Effectiveness
By: Robert Palmer | Posted: 15th January 2007
For many clothing store owners, the displaying of their merchandise is often a problem. Many different solutions such as racks, shelves, and tables exist, but many of these prove to be highly ineffective. Mannequins are the obvious choice for clothing display. There are many reasons behind this including affordability, space, and selling power.
The average display mannequin runs somewhere in the $200 range. Any table or rack used for similar purposes will run close to the same amount. Considering that not many mannequins are necessary to occupy a store, it is relatively cheap to furnish your whole store. Another reason for their cost effectiveness is their durability. Fiberglass mannequins are almost indestructible and rarely need to be replaced.
Mannequins take up very little space, but are visible from long distances. A storeowner can strategically place them around the store to utilize a maximum amount of space with as little expense as possible. Tables and shelves are not only large and bulky but require cleaning not required on most mannequins on an almost daily basis, particularly glass tables.
The number one reason for the purchase of mannequins is their selling power. Shelves and tables stack the clothes in a manner in which items can easily be misplaced and racks are often times difficult to sort through, especially when in search for a particular article of clothing. Mannequins display the exact outfit being sold so as to help avoid confusion. They also help to model the clothes for potential buyers. Customers will want to see the clothes as if they were on a real person, which is a benefit only mannequins provide. Most mannequins are modeled after physically fit people. Customers will be more likely to buy clothing on an attractive mannequin than on a shelf or rack.
Intelligent store owners will find that a combination of tables and mannequins will move products faster than any of these means alone. Displaying products is an important component of sales and using this technique will allow you to successfully display your product in a manner that is visually and financially efficient.
