Tips For Finding An Affordable Dental Plan
By: Joe Stewart | Posted: 27th March 2007
Is finding an affordable dental plan a problem for you? Many people do. Dental insurance really doesn't help much and the cost is outrageous! They don't cover any current problems for a full year! Sorry about your luck.
It doesn't really make sense to keep paying for it if I can't use it. Basically, what I'm being told is to buy dental insurance in advance of having a problem. At least I'll be covered later. Interesting. Let me do some quick math here. The average cost of dental insurance is around fifty dollars a month for an individual and one hundred for a family. That's too much money, especially for as little as they pay for.
Here's an example - Say I need to have a tooth. Basically, I'm being told to wait twelve months and pay $600.00 in dental insurance premiums in order to have a procedure covered that only costs, at most, one third of that? Pay a year in advance to get my teeth covered? Let me think on this for a moment. Then I find out that insurance doesn't even cover the entire procedure. A 20% deductible still applies. That's a bunch of crap!
So is there really such a thing as an affordable dental plan? Maybe, but I'm going to let you be the judge.
There is another option available, other than dental insurance, called dental discount plans. I've heard so much about them that I thought I'd see what all of the fuss was about, This is what I've found.
These Dental discount plans are very affordable. Most plans cost less than $20.00 a month per family and even less for individual coverage. Discount dental plans are exactly that, but not insurance policies.
Most of these dicount dental plans work like this.
Pay to start the plan. After signing up you can visit a participating dentist usually within two days. These dentists are
as professional as any that you've ever seen in your life. As a matter of fact, YOUR dentist may already be a provider.
You save money with these plans by paying for your procedure at the time of your appointment. No billing the insurance company, no deductibles, no age limits, no exclusions and pre-existing conditions are no problem. It's a good deal for the dentist because he gets paid cash on the spot by taking the discount.
They also save in other ways. Also, they can get incredible savings on everyday equipment they need for their business.
What do you think? Is this an affordable dental plan or do you think it's a scam of some kind? You be the judge.
