If you are a high school graduate who is considering attending college, please do not think that loans are your only form of financing! When you are in need of financial help, for whatever reason, there are better ways of getting it than applying for a student loan. Loans are burdensome to pay back because of the fact that their interest is eternally increasing. Rather than take out a student loan, apply for a scholarship or a grant instead!
The incredible thing about scholarships and grants is that they never have to be repaid. Nevertheless, you must set aside some time to search and apply for them.
Scholarships: Various organizations and businesses such as the Lions Club, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce and the Girls & Boys Club give scholarships to college students. There are military, church, and union scholarships as well.

The majority of the scholarships found here require you to write a paper. Don’t stress about this and definitely don’t quit! Find one that suites you and then have a seat and start typing. Before you send it in, have a family member or friend proofread it.
To find other scholarships check the college or university you will be applying for. Frequently they award scholarships to students with high Grade Point Averages or SAT scores. Colleges usually award scholarships for athletic abilities as well.
If you haven’t graduated from high school yet, ask the Financial Aid office if they know of any scholarships you could apply for. Your counselor would also be a great person to ask, since they’ll will know your strengths and weaknesses a little better.
The most essential thing to do is to start right now. Look and ask around for scholarships. Who knows, you just might run into a gold mine!
Grants, just like scholarships, never have to be repaid. Grants are given depending on the financial need, race, association, or special interest of the student. Private groups, educational institutions, and the federal government all give out grants.
Grants from the government are awarded based solely on on the student’s income. In order to apply for one you must go to FAFSA.com and fill out an application or you can grab one from your high school or college financial aid office. Depending on whether you sent it in electronically or physically, your Student Aid Report will be sent to you in about 3-6 weeks.
