Marketing Your Business on MySpace

If you spend any time online at all, by now you've heard about MySpace. This powerful social networking tool has topped the charts in terms of popularity, regularly being the sixth most popular website in the English-speaking world, but did you know it could also be used for marketing? Though MySpace started out as a site for friends to keep in contact with each other and share information, today MySpace has become a prime place for people to advertise their services. With new registrations coming in at a rate 230,000 a day, you can see that MySpace can definitely put you in contact with the people who will become your new customers!
There are plenty of reasons to market on MySpace. With its nearly unlimited growth potential, it can get your information out to the people who will be most likely to use it, Also, you'll find that MySpace's original purpose as a social network is invaluable for getting your page recommended and for getting more people to come by and see your work. Whether you are an artist with a showing or a band with a gig, you can tell everyone about it and let them know that you've got something to offer.
The best way to get yourself noticed on MySpace is to make friends. Friends, in MySpace terms, are people who have access to areas of your account that are restricted to the general public, and they are also updated when you have a new bulletin up. One thing to keep in mind is that the more friends you make, the more friends you'll make in the future. People friend the people their friends do, and it's easy to see how a few simple "friendings" can snowball!
One of the most important tools you can use is your bulletin board. Like forum posts, you can put them up, but no one can reply to you. When you put one up, only your friends will see it, so this is a great example of directed marketing; you are sending the information out to those likely to use it and want it. You can also use an automatic messaging program that can get your news to a lot of different people. When you write up either of these, remember to put in your contact information. It doesn't do you any good if they're interested in your service but can't get in touch with you! Similarly, to gain more friends, join a MySpace Train. This is essentially a tool that allows you to post your profile on list that can be seen by other users. While this is not targeted, you might have more issues getting in touch with the people who will need your services, but its still a good way to get your name out there.
MySpace is a goldmine for the right person, so get started and create your account today!
