Purchasing an automobile is among the major decisions we made next to getting married, having children, getting a dog and purchasing a house. And oftentimes we base our buying decisions to the vehicle’s brand reputation like the Konig wheels for instance, the more popular a brand is the more that people becomes aware of them and therefore affects their final decision.
Basing on the Harris Polls, Toyota and Honda were not part of the top ten brand list that they previously compiled annually.
As a matter of fact Ford in those years was really strong and was ranking in third. According to pollsters when they asked consumers, “We would like you to think about brands or names of products and services you know. Considering everything, which three brands do you consider the best?"
Basing on some of the past results of a nationwide poll conducted by Harris Poll out of the 2,372 US adults that participated in the survey online through June 5 to 11, 2007, there were fluctuations observed especially for the automotive brands.
The top brands that came out in the survey includes Coca-Cola which rise to the top position from previously being number 3 last year, Sony the previous number 1 for seven consecutive years has dropped to number 2 while Toyota which was on the fourth position rose to number 3. Dell in rank number 2 last year falls to number 4 this year. There were two brands that didn’t make the list this year, the Hewlett Packard which was previously in number 7 and General Electric in number 8.
There were three industries that were represented on this year’s list while four are from the Electronics industry and the remaining three are each from the Autos and Consumer and Package Goods.
Most of the brands included in this year’s Top 10 list did not have much movement. Unfortunately for Honda from previously being number 6 dropped to number 10 while Kraft Foods from number 9 rose to number 6.
It’s quite amazing to note how much change ten years can make. From 1997 only four of the brands included in this year’s list were part of the list back then and its Ford which was number 1 ten years ago, Sony which was then in number 3, Coca-Cola back then was in number 7 and then Pepsi Cola ranking number 10, ten years ago.
Robert Fronk, Senior Vice President, Brand and Strategy Consulting, Harris Interactive said that the association of being the best is very important in developing a brand. He also added, "For a truly successful brand relationship though, the objective is not just awareness, but to foster the ongoing process and outcome of brand engagement, which requires more custom and sophisticated measures based upon the interaction of the brand and its desired audience."
