Chrysler has recently announced its plans of introducing the latest generation of the Grand Voyager MPV into the Chinese market next year. This particular model has obtained five stars in the NHTSA’s safety ratings, which is a performance that is yet unmatched by any Japan-made MPVs.

For the early part of this year the producer of Jeep tow bar, Chrysler has announced that it would start the production of the Dodge Grand Caravan MPV in China at Fujian-based Southeast Motor scheduled at the end of this year.

The launching of the two models would signify the great importance that Chrysler has put into its MPV models. Aside from that the Voyager and the Grand Caravan has shared many parts and features that are almost similar in appearance which gives Chrysler a compelling personality in the MPV segment in China stunning enough to compete with the likes of Toyota Previa and the Nissan Quest.

For the first half of this year around 107,000 MPVs were sold already in China and the figure is still expected to increase reaching 1 million in the near future.

Last month, PSA Peugeot-Citroen together with the Chinese carmaker Hafei has signed a memorandum of agreement to form a 50-50 joint venture that entails the production of high-end MPV products. Similarly, Guangzhou Toyota, a venture between Guangzhu Automobile and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) was also reported of planning to produce the Previa MPV hopefully early next year. The launching of new MPV models is expected to create fierce competition in the MPV segment in the market.
