Nottingham. Home of Robin Hood, Boots the Chemist, Ibuprofen, the Raleigh Chopper and HP Sauce. Its name derives from the chieftain who founded the village in 600AD - a charming chap called Snot. So the true name is Snottingham but the initial S disappeared after the Norman invasion (those French were unable to pronounce the 'sn' sound).
