Link Popularity

Well, we have all heard it before. You need lots of incoming links to your site in order to enhance your popularity with the major search engine. But how do we get other webmasters to consider linking to us. The answer is really quite straight forward, "You Ask Them".

Many webmasters have the dubious task of getting their clients websites indexed and ranked on the major search engines. So just like you and I they too are searching for quality sites to exchange links with.
When exchanging links I have found that it is very important to seek out partners in the same or related niche as your site. It's all about relevancy. The more relevant the sites you link with are to your site, the more favorable your placement in the search engines. Also you want your anchor text (keyword phrase) to be one that you wish to rank well for within the search engines. So for example, it may be far more beneficial to use your main keyword phrase as the anchor text in your link then to use your website name.

OK, so how do you find all of those quality relevant websites to exchange links with. You could manually search Google or you can simply join a quality link exchange site. One of the best link exchange services that I have found offers a totally free version that is fully functional. Although an automated monthly paid upgrade is available you may find it is not needed. I have used both versions but I currently use just the free version.

A few months ago I came across a great new Link Exchange Directory script that I have found to be the perfect compliment to my link exchange service. It was very affordable and the script gives me total control over my link exchange directory with no monthly fees to worry about.  It also checks for Linkback and protects me against cheaters trying to sneak a one way link to their site by not linking back to mine. It will send out an email and if they don't comply within a set period of time it will automatically delete their link. And I don't have to do a thing, pretty neat. The time involved to process a link with the script as compared to the automated system my service offers is about the same. In both cases it takes just a few seconds. In short I initiate the link request through the link exchange service and then finalize it using my script. It works wonderfully.

Another reason I like using this script better then using my services automated system is that I always had a concern about what I would do if I decided to stop using the paid service. I didn't like the idea of having several directories for the same website.
I personally think that it is essential to have a good link exchange strategy in place for promoting your websites. If you are planning to implement link exchange in your SEO strategy you do have several options. There are lots of good services available to you, some a lot more costly then others. I prefer a method that allows me to maintain full control and make necessary changes when needed without going through a Black Box. If you no what I mean.
