The Panama Canal

The second day in Panama city we woke up early in the morning and decided to start our day with shopping in the Mercado Publico. I purchased some precious jewellery and some nice wooden figures as presents, but when I had asked the merchant for the sombreros, he explained me that the Panamanian hats are made in Ecuador. The hat that the most commonly used in Panama is called “the pita”. Pita is hat with narrow brim made of straw with black and white stripes. When you have a shopping in the Panama City, you have to remember the main phrase: “Caunta suesta esta?” That means: “How much does it cost?” After a shopping we had our day meal in the local Chinese restaurant.
After eating we decided to visit the Panama Canal, the famous and well-known sight. The Canal was established in the year 1914 and it is considered to be the greatest engineering construction in the whole world. To get to the Canal we used to took a shuttle from the hotel and then to have a 1,5 hour train ride along the canal`s isthmuses. This railroad was built in the year 1855 by the people who were on the California gold rush. This railroad is very famous, because it was the first trans-continental rail link. During our travel we had several stops, walked along the Miraflores Locks and admired the views of the Canal. Also there are a lot of different ships in the Canal. After our travel to the Panama Canal we returned in the hotel and decided to visit the National theater after a delicious dinner in the Italian restaurant. The performance in theater was very excited: it was the folklore ballet. We liked the elegant costumes and the unusual folk dances of the ballet artists.
