Ancient Greek Society

Women in Ancient Greece had a few main roles and duties. Among them there was a duty of raising children and running households. Having women’s work Ancient Greek females baked bread, cooked, served, weaved, cleaned, spinned, removed trash and fetched water. At the same time there were the so-called ‘hetaera’ women. And they played an important role not in female, but male society. They were prostitutes, courtesans, conversationalists and entertainers. There also were women performing menial jobs, they were women slaves.
But women in Ancient Greece never were inferior to men. There were many differences between male and female roles in society. It was normal for men to consider themselves superior and women subservient to them. Greek men felt the heads of their families. In their homes women were not mixing I the men’s society and women’s investigations in Greek society were complex. From one point of view Ancient Greek women played a miserable role. At the same time Ancient Greece used to be a progressive and democratic state. Their advanced ideas extended to the issue of obligations of different sexes as well.
Men might think Ancient Greek women were not powerful at all. But how than the fact that most of the religious rituals were held by women can be regarded. Let’s not forget and let’s not reduce the importance of religion in ancient times. Females got the will of Zeus.
Women in ancient Greece inspired and revealed artists’ talents many centuries ago and till nowadays. The greatest art ,ever, was produced if not by the females then due to them. This is indisputable. And this was their main role in all the times.
