Gaining Trust Should Always Be First
By Dave Weeks
I remember seven years ago when I got my first computer and
logged on for the first time.Wow, I am on the internet. Now,
the internet is really no big deal. It's just there like
flipping on a lightswitch in the kitchen, and, yes, there is
the kitchen. For the most part, everyone has internet access
and when you look back to the days of Yor when we did not
have internet access, like maybe nine years ago or a little
longer, you wonder how we got along without it.
When I got on the internet for the first time, I had some
serious high hopes. Like, I am going to make it big in my
business. Well, that went on for a number of years with some
failure and disappointment. However, I feel there is a reason
for the failure and disappointments when it comes to
building a business online. Regardless of where you are at
in terms of online marketing success, there will always be a
great deal to learn. The web is still in its' infancy and
will be for quite sometime. Just as we go through growing
pains as children and even adults, so does hold true for
your business online.
As I failed online several times, I began to have my doubts
about marketing online. But, even though I had my doubts,
marketing online works. It all stems from lack of knowledge,
and not listening to the ones who really know how to do this
internet marketing thing. You see, I was one of those guys
doing what everybody else was doing because back then,
nobody really knew what was the right way or the wrong way
(except maybe a few).
What was it like in the days of Yor for internet marketing?
Well, it went something like this. Get a webpage or website,
put up your products on the website, and get listed in
search engines. Sounds easy enough, right? At least thats
what all of the information I bought said to do. I think of
all the success books I bought over time, I feel I could
have nearly bought a house. But, anyway.
So, what did I learn from that experience? Well, I learned
that that information was fine, but it wasn't enough. We all
want to be listed in search engines because that is where a
tremendous amount of traffic comes from.Getting listed is
next to impossible unless you are willing to go through the
pay per click, which by the way I recommend for increase in
traffic. Search engines are excellent for traffic, but, they
are not excellent for closing sales.
So how do you close sales? Sales is a numbers game and your
website plays a big part. I have stated in articles before
that, If your a business owner, you need to take your eyes
off of yourself and put them onto your customers. It's not
about you or what you want. It's about what your customers
want.
Let's face it. Nobody likes to be salespitched. And that
holds true for me as a website owner. I put myself in other
peoples' shoes, but I really don't have to. I, too, am a
buying customer. Just from that, I know how I want to be
treated.
Online marketing relies on consistent traffic to a website.
Once a visitor arrives at your website, the first thing that
visitor will see might be a sales offer. Nothing new to
them, nor is it fresh. You have to take it to the next
level, and that is trust. Gaining trust is the first step to
success online. Gain trust by making your offer last, and
giving them something free first.Like, some type of
information that can help your visitor. Have your potential
customer access this information through email, and make
your offer along with this emailed info. It's all trust,
right product or service, consistency, and numbers. You have
to have it. If you can achieve it, you will win. Remember
to always ask for the sale, but also, give away something
for free in the process. Do something to let your future
customers know that you are not just about the sale.
